What is your passion in ministry? |
My passion in ministry is to walk beside families; to resource and encourage parents. Just as each person is uniquely created in Christ to discover His will for their life, so are families. We are born into a family of His choosing to love and be challenged by the relationships in that family. Our personal spiritual commitment and formation is paramount for our parenting. (Proverbs 14:26,27) I love helping families grow for God. They write their stories with the decisions they make. We, as their church family, need to help parents give their children the ‘right stuff,’ to make them strong decision makers. The best decision they can make is to live for Christ. We need to model grace. The best parenting style is one that provides grace-filled boundaries, just as He ‘parents’ us. (Deu 6:5-7 & Eph 6:4) I have a heart for families in crisis. God hates it when our families are broken, BUT he loves us, unconditionally. I am passionate about matching those who have walked this challenge and triumphed, with those who are struggling. (2Cor1:3,4) |
What qualities do you bring to your ministry? |
My formal education started as a student at the University of Calgary. I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Ministry at Alberta Bible College and I have a certificate in Conflict Management from Mount Royal College. My leadership experience spans roles in business, church and community. The best quality I bring to ministry is that I love people of all ages, shapes and sizes. We are all imperfect and we all have a story. |
Tell us about your family. |
Jim and I have been married for 34 years and have two grown children. Jim is an investment advisor, businessman and basketball player. Our daughter, Carissa is an artist and an actor, looking for her next great adventure. Our son, Pierce, is attending University of Victoria, studying engineering. He shares his father’s passion for basketball and plays for the Victoria Vikings. |
How did you get involved with BVCC? |
We started attending Bow Valley in 1998. We were attracted to its ‘pure and simple’ Christian message and the vital and engaging youth programs. I became involved, in various capacities, in women’s and children’s ministries. In 1999 I was inspired to attend the PACE program at Alberta Bible College, to earn my degree in Leadership and Ministry, after which I was invited to joined the staff in 2003. |
