What is your passion in ministry?

My passions are leading people to a place of authentic worship; and helping people discover and develop their gifts and talents in the areas of musical, technical, and fine arts.

What qualities do you bring to your ministry?

I come from a background in public education, having served 17 years as a high school band director and guidance counselor. I have a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba (1986) and a Masters degree in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University (2005). I bring a love of music and the arts; abilities in the areas of music, song writing, and organization; and a passion for equipping others. I am also passionate about discovering or writing new worship songs that help us express our praise and appreciation to God. I released a worship CD of original songs in late 2006, and am presently working on a second CD project. Please check out my website at www.mikerschuster.com.

Tell us about your family.

My wife Jennifer works at Westjet, we have been married for over 20 years. We have been blessed with two wonderful children: Janessa (grade eleven) is an avid reader who excels at her studies, and is a die-hard Archangel; Zachary (grade nine) is an avid reader, a gifted artist, and multi-instrumental musician.

How did you get involved with BVCC?

We moved to Calgary in July 2002, and “visited” BVCC in October, on the first Sunday of “Forty Days of Purpose.” Within a few weeks Jennifer and I found our way onto the worship team, then the Christmas program, then… we never left. I joined the staff of BVCC in August of 2003.

What quote inspires you?

My favorite quote changes weekly (depends who I’ve been reading)… a couple of overall favorites would be:

“Rain can ruin your weekend, or rain can spare your life — depending on who you are, and what your thirst is like.”

~Mark Heard

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

~Dr. Seuss

“Well done is better than well said.”

~Benjamin Franklin
