Slow reading of scripture

August 29 (Cal) –Good On Ya! – Matt.5: 1-12
Readings helping us to choose to be happy.
Memory Verse - Matt.5: 3

Monday: Matt.5: 1-12The Beatitudes
What does beatitude mean?
Which one do you find most mystifying? Challenging?

Tuesday: Matt. 5:1-12The Beatitudes Continued
On a scale of 1 – 10 (10 being highest) rate yourself as to your ‘happiness’ quotient.

Wednesday: Philippians 2:1-11 - Imitating Christ
A great passage on attitude. How can you think of others being better than yourself?
How can you look after their interests?
Do you work well with others?

Thursday: Philippians 2:1-11 - Imitating Christ Continued
Verses 5-11 speak of Christ’s attitude. What divine privileges do you think he gave up?
Check out as dictionary that refers to slavery in Jesus’ day.
What was his reward?

Friday: Philippians 2:12-18Shining Stars
Why do we have to work hard? Doesn’t God work in us?
Can you go through a day without complaining?

Saturday: Philippians 4: 2-9 - Rejoice
Here we have some more practical advice on bearing fruit. Work your way through this passage and note such advice.

Approach.
(This can take anywhere from a few minutes to ½ hour)

1. Take time to ask God to bless your reading.

2. Slowly read the daily passage in a readable and accurate version (i.e. NIV, NASB, NLT, KJB). Each reading is deliberately brief in order to allow time to be still while considering the text.

3. After reading, take a moment to consider the passage. Meditate on the world of Jesus, specific words, the listeners, context and/or the overall theme.

4. Pray regarding what the passage brings to mind.

5. Think about the text throughout the day. Perhaps a word or a simple phrase or maybe the theme can be drawn to mind. In other words, be open to what God is telling you to believe or do.

Notes.
• Following this time with the word, you may want to move into your usual prayer time.
• You may want to write down your thoughts.
• This approach is not meant to replace the study of scripture or the longer readings of the Bible.
• The memory verse provides you with a text that deals with the week's theme.
• Our web site also provides these scriptures, along with questions for thought and consideration.
