Slow reading of scripture

Scripture Readings for
‘Who is My Neighbour’ (March 8 - 13)

Monday — Samaritan Woman
John 4:34-38

You may want to read the first part of this story. We are to pray for workers for the harvest field. WIll you do that today?

Tuesday — Way, Truth and Life
John 14:1-7

Just one question today. How is Jesus the way and the truth and the life for you? He wants to be all three to you.

Wednesday — Speaking for Jesus
Luke 12:8-9

Are there those you should speak to concerning Jesus?
Remember someone you spoke to about Jesus.

Thursday — Lost Coin
Luke 15:8-10

Why was the lost coin so important?
What does this passage say about the importance of people in God's sight?
Do you see yourself as important to God?

Friday — Born Again
John 3:16-21

Remember when you became a Christian. What changed?
How do we change?
Is it up to God alone or do we have a part?

Saturday — Great Commission
Matthew 28:18-20
The famous statment of Jesus certainly shows what was important to Jesus.
What can you do to help fulfil the Great Commission?
Do you see yourself as someone who can speak for Jesus, someone who goes or someone who teaches?
Perhaps there is something else you can do?

Approach.
(This can take anywhere from a few minutes to ½ hour)

1. Take time to ask God to bless your reading.

2. Slowly read the daily passage in a readable and accurate version (i.e. NIV, NASB, NLT, KJB). Each reading is deliberately brief in order to allow time to be still while considering the text.

3. After reading, take a moment to consider the passage. Meditate on the world of Jesus, specific words, the listeners, context and/or the overall theme.

4. Pray regarding what the passage brings to mind.

5. Think about the text throughout the day. Perhaps a word or a simple phrase or maybe the theme can be drawn to mind. In other words, be open to what God is telling you to believe or do.

Notes.
• Following this time with the word, you may want to move into your usual prayer time.
• This approach is not meant to replace the study of scripture or the longer readings of the Bible.
• Our web site also provides these scriptures, along with questions for thought and consideration.
