As a result of the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS across the globe, SIM has created the HOPE for AIDS initiative focusing on Home-based care, Orphans and vulnerable children, Prevention, and Enabling local churches. BV has selected two projects:

The Medan Addis Ababa ACTS initiative is a partnership between the local church and mission in a slum called the Kiros Sub-City in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the HIV infection rate is 11.5%. Funds will provide for community services including home-based care for sufferers of HIV/AIDS, training for peer educators and resources for orphans and vulnerable children.

BVCC began giving funds for a student worker for theuniversity population in the Caucasus region in the fall of2007. We propose to continue with this towards the supportof Arzu the Associate General Secretary and also begin supporting Matt Lindo, General Secretary of ASU who will spend part of the year in the Caucasus, then furlough here in Calgary in the fall connected with IVCF. The population in
this area of the Caucasus is predominantly Muslim.

Officially a secular state, Turkey is predominantly Muslim. Less than one percent of the population is Christian. The Bible Society had been involved in the translation and distribution of the scriptures in Turkey. We are sending money to support a very successful method of Bible distribution: Book Fairs. These are held in different centers. Istanbul has a well-visited bookstore. Bibles are also supplied to secular bookstores.

CCIC support local churches in China in various ways including distribution of literature and training of Christian leaders. They have an outreach to Chinese immigrants in Canada, which provides resources including books and tapes and trains churches for evangelizing Chinese immigrants to Canada. Our congregation has been using some of these Chinese materials.

A non-denominational, international Christian radio network that broadcasts the gospel in
more than 150 languages from 32 transmitters located throughout Asia.

Everton and Cheryl Cummings minister at Northview Church of Christ in Jamaica located next door to the Vocational Training Center in St. Ann’s. The congregation is lively and growing, and involved in the community. Everton has a desire to raise up and disciple new Christian leaders from within the congregation. Everton also shepherds the Freehill Church of Christ.

Carlton and Pansy Mullings minister to congregations in Jamaica. In addition to the day-to-day operation of Ocho Rios Church of Christ, Carlton holds revival meetings, counsels and does pastoral work of all kinds. Pansy oversees the Vocational Training Center in St. Ann’s.

Beverley Kalnin has taken over the leadership of the multi-faceted ministry of Frontier Labourers for Christ in Thailand since the death of her husband Daniel at the end of 2008. The aim is to take the Gospel to the tribal peoples of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and north India through church planting, crop substitution programs, village development
projects, leadership development and the Barefoot Doctors ministry.

Global PartnerLink is a division of Wycliff e Bible Translators that links partners (churches and individuals who will give and pray) to nationals. They are committed to training national Christians to translate Scriptures into their own language. BVCC supports the Sabaot Old Testament translation project in Kenya, which was due to be completed in 2010 but is now projected to fi nish in 2011.

Terri is Field Project Offi cer for Global PartnerLink and Development Department of Wycliff e Bible Translators here in Calgary. Terri’s ministry involves travel to various projects in Africa, Asia and South America where she meets with teams to encourage and oversee projects. She coordinates communication between the projects and supporters, and is involved in fund-raising, awareness and policy-making.

Colette Ladan and Jay Bowyer are reaching out to peoplein Poland through teaching English as a second languageusing a vibrant, Bible-based curriculum. They are located in the beautiful old city of Krakow, Poland’s third largest city. A university centre, the city off ers many possibilities
for ministry. Opportunities exist for short-term workers in teaching, conversation programs, Bible studies, youth work and administration.
