As a result of the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS across the globe, SIM has created the HOPE for AIDS initiative focusing on Home-based care, Orphans and vulnerable children, Prevention, and Enabling local churches. BVCC supports two projects:

The Medan Addis Ababa ACTS initiative is a partnership between the local church and mission in a slum called the Kiros Sub-City in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the HIV infection rate is 11.5%. Funds will provide for community services including home-based care for sufferers of HIV/AIDS, training for peer educators and resources for orphans and vulnerable children.

BVCC began giving funds for a student worker for theuniversity population in the Eurasia region in the Fall of 2007.

Everton Cummings ministers at Northview Church of Christ in Jamaica located next door to the Vocational Training Center in St. Ann’s. The congregation is lively and growing and involved in the community. Everton works to raise up and disciple new Christian leaders from within the congregation. He also shepherds the Freehill Church of Christ.

Carlton and Pansy Mullings minister to congregations in Jamaica. In addition to the day-to-day operation of Ocho Rios Church of Christ, Carlton holds revival meetings, counsels and does pastoral work of all kinds. Pansy oversees the Vocational Training Center in St. Ann’s.

Beverley Kalnin leads the multi-faceted ministry of Frontier Labourers for Christ in Thailand. The aim is to take the Gospel to the tribal peoples of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and north India through church planting, crop substitution programs, village development projects, leadership development and the Barefoot Doctors ministry.

Terri is Project Manager for Wycliffe Bible Translators here in Calgary. Wycliffe partners with national workers worldwide with the aim of Bible translation and promotion of literacy based development.

Colette Ladan and Jay Bowyer are reaching out to people in Poland through teaching English as a second language using a vibrant, Bible-based curriculum. They are located in the beautiful city of Krakow, Poland’s third largest city. A university centre, the city offers many possibilities for ministry. Opportunities exist for short-term workers in teaching, conversation programs, Bible studies, youth work and administration.
