As a result of the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS across the globe, SIM has created the HOPE for AIDS initiative focusing on Home-based care, Orphans and vulnerable children, Prevention, and Enabling local churches. BV has selected two projects:
The Medan Addis Ababa ACTS initiative is a partnership between the local church and mission in a slum called the Kiros Sub-City in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where the HIV infection rate is 11.5%. Funds will provide for community services including home-based care for sufferers of HIV/AIDS, training for peer educators and resources for orphans and vulnerable children.

Project: Galmi Hospital AIDS Program

The Galmi Hospital AIDS Program in Niger provides care for infected individuals within the community while effecting a 20% reduction in the transmission of HIV/AIDS. Patients at the hospital receive medical care, education on HIV/AIDS and counselling, while volunteers are trained and equipped to educate the community on HIV/AIDS prevention and care. |

BVCC began giving funds for a student worker for theuniversity population in the Caucasus region in the fall of2007. We propose to continue with this towards the supportof Arzu the Associate General Secretary and also begin supporting Matt Lindo, General Secretary of ASU who will spend part of the year in the Caucasus, then furlough here in Calgary in the fall connected with IVCF. The population in
this area of the Caucasus is predominantly Muslim.

Officially a secular state, Turkey is predominantly Muslim. Less than one percent of the population is Christian. The Bible Society had been involved in the translation and distribution of the scriptures in Turkey. We are sending money to support a very successful method of Bible distribution: Book Fairs. These are held in different centers. Istanbul has a well-visited bookstore. Bibles are also supplied to secular bookstores.
